MANKATO, Minn. — Minnesota State kicks of its 2011-12 season at the California (Pa.) Tip-Off Tournament. The Mavericks face Ashland University Saturday and either Indianapolis or California (Pa.) Sunday.
Last Year At A Glance: Last season the Mavericks finished 13-13 overall and 10-12 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action. The Mavericks were led by all-conference senior point guard Andrea Walsh who will surely be missed after averaging 10.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game last year.
Upcoming Opponent: Minnesota State squares off against the Ashland University Eagles Saturday, Nov. 12 in the opening round of the California (Pa.) Tip-Off Tournament. The Eagles have played in two exhibition games so far this season losing their first at Toledo, 51-36, before earning a 79-74 win at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. Ashland finished last season 19-10 overall and 12-7 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Eagles were the South Division co-champions last year and return six letterwinners and two starters from that squad.
Coach Gohl By The Numbers: Minnesota State Head Coach
Pam Gohl begins her fourth year at the helm for the Mavericks as she owns a 60-28 overall record and a 39-23 NSIC record. Gohl led the Mavericks to a 13-13 overall record last year as the team finshed tied for eighth in the NSIC with a 10-12 record.
All-Time: The 2011-12 season marks the 47th year of women’s basketball as a varsity sport at Minnesota State. MSU currently holds a 591-534 (.525) and has made three NCAA Tournament Appearances in 1986, 2008 and 2009.
