Box Score Sioux Falls, S.D. – Minnesota State used a balanced attack to defeat Augustana College in five sets. After taking the first set, the Mavericks let the second set slip away, but came back strong and captured two of the final three sets.
After falling behind 10-14 in the first set, MSU went on a 6-0 run that was led by setter #Brittany Stamer#. The senior had two assists and a serving ace in the run. AC battled back to tie the set at 17-17. MSU then went on a 8-4 run to win the first set 25-21.
MSU jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the second set. AC fought back to tie it up at 24-24. AC used a 3-1 run to capture the second set 27-25.
The third set was highly competitive with the largest lead coming early favoring AC 4-1. It included 11 ties and four lead changes. But in the end, AC separated from a 27-27 tie to win the set 29-27.
The fourth set went back-and-forth and was tied at 8-8 before MSU went on a 5-0 run. The Mavericks never looked back en route to a 25-15 win.
A kill by sophomore outside hitter #Jenna McNallan# gave MSU a 14-10 lead in the fifth set. Following a Viking timeout, an AC attack error gave the set to MSU 15-11.
MSU was led offensively by junior outside hitter #Chelsea Fogarty# with 27 kills. Stamer led the Mavericks with 62 assists and 30 digs. McNallan also contributed 15 kills and 13 digs.
Following the weekend split, MSU is now 11-6 overall and 4-5 in NSIC play. They will return home next weekend for conference tilts with Concordia St. Paul and St. Cloud State.
