Box Score MARSHALL, Minn. – The No. 19 Minnesota State Mavericks were unable to pull off the upset of No. 9 Southwest Minnesota State as the Mustangs swept MSU Saturday afternoon.
Southwest Minnesota State controlled the entire first set as it never trailed en route to a 25-9 victory. The Mustangs opened the set on an 18-4 run before finishing the set on a 7-5 run.

Despite a closer third set, Southwest Minnesota State was able to complete the sweep as it defeated MSU, 25-22. The Mavericks fought hard in the set as they battled back-and-forth with the Mustangs to a 22-20 score, but was unable to complete the comeback.
The Mavericks were led offensively by junior outside hitter
Chelsea Fogarty and Storlie who added 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Senior setter
Brittany Stamer paced MSU with 23 assists in her first match as the school’s all-time assist leader.
Southwest Minnesota State recorded more kills (47-30), assists (47-30), digs (36-28) and blocks (9-6) in the sweep over the Mavericks. With the win, the Mustangs improve to 18-6 overall and 12-3 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action.
Minnesota State (15-8, 8-6 NSIC) returns to action Tuesday, Nov. 1 as it returns home to face Minnesota Crookston. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., at Taylor Center.
