Mankato, Minn.-The Minnesota State University women’s hockey team was downed by the Ohio State Buckeyes 1-0 Saturday afternoon to complete the sweep over the Mavericks at All Seasons Arena in Mankato, Minn.
It was a quiet first two periods as the up and down the ice game was knotted at 0-0 with the Mavericks being outshot by the Buckeyes 20-19 after the second period.
Ohio State scored a power-play goal at 9:56 into the third which was the games deciding factor by forward Hokey Langen. The shot was assisted by center Kelly Wild as her shot deflected off of the crossbar, giving Langen an opportunity to score.
The Mavericks were 0-of-2 on the power-play but took 3 penalties as the OSU special teams unit was 1-of-3 on the day for power-play opportunities.
In spite of the defeat, Mavericks goaltender Danielle Butters notched 31 saves on the day, keeping MSU in reach of a victory throughout the game.
The Mavericks (4-6-0 0-4-0 WCHA) will host the Bemidji State Beavers as MSU looks to bounce back. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:07 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4th at All Seasons Arena.
