Box Score MANKATO, Minn. – The No. 19 Minnesota State Mavericks didn’t let a slow start get them down Friday night as they came back from an early deficit to defeat the Upper Iowa University Peacocks in four sets (12-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-19).
The Peacocks came out with a lot of intensity in the first set as they opened on a 13-6 run. From here UIU closed the set out on a 12-6 run as it took the set, 25-12.
MSU evened the match in the second set as it used a late comeback to take the set, 25-22. The Mavericks were led by juniors
Chelsea Fogarty and
Kayla Berning who combined for nine kills on 17 attempts.
The Mavericks took their first lead in the match in the third set as they battled back and forth with the Peacocks before taking the set, 25-18. MSU led 16-14 before ending the match on a 9-4 run as junior middle blocker

Brittany Stamer.
Minnesota State would take care of business in the fourth set as the Mavericks never surrendered the lead. With the scored tied at 14, MSU went on an 11-5 run to seal the match as it took the set, 25-19.
The Mavericks were led at the net by four players with double-digit kills. Leading the way was Fogarty who recorded 16 kills on 38 attempts (.237). Joining Fogarty was junior middle blocker
Courteney Steinhauser (11), sophomore outside hitter
Jenna McNallan (10) and Storlie with 10. Stamer paced the Mavericks with 45 assists and 17 digs while junior defensive specialist
Samantha Dale and senior setter
Alli Rice added 14 and 11 digs, respectively.
With her 16 kills, Fogarty became the ninth Maverick to join the school’s 1,000 dig club. She now has 1,010 for her career.
The Mavericks topped the Peacocks in kills (54-39), assists (53-38) and digs (65-56) while Upper Iowa recorded two more blocks MSU (18-16). The loss drops the Peacocks to 13-10 overall and 6-7 in the NSIC.
The Mavericks (14-7, 7-6 NSIC) return to action tomorrow when they travel to Winona, Minn., to face the Winona State Warriors at 5 p.m.
