Minnesota State closes its nonconference schedule with a road win

Mavericks Earn 3-1 Win over Colonials

Pittsburgh, Pa.-- MSU capitalized on two second period power-play goals to skate past Robert Morris 3-1 Saturday afternoon.
 
Minnesota State led 1-0 after a first period goal by sophomore forward Kathleen Rogan, which marked her sixth goal of the season. Fellow sophomore Lauren Barnes notched her seventh assist of the year on the Rogan goal as Shelby Moteyunas also earned an assist on the goal.
 
The Mavericks put away two power-play goals in the second to generate a 3-0 lead. For the second-straight night, Emilia Andersson scored a power-play goal for MSU. Andersson’s goal was scored at 2:10 into the second period and was assisted by senior Jackie Otto and freshman Kara Power.
 
One minute and six seconds later, Otto tallied a power-play goal of her own as senior Ariel Mackley and sophomore Kari Lundberg assisted the goal.
 
Robert Morris’ Rebecca Vint scored a short-handed goal to bring the game within two goals at 5:07 into the third period.
 
The Mavericks were able to fend off the Colonials to secure the 3-1 win as MSU goaltender Alli Altmann made 24 saves in her third win this season. MSU outshot Robert Morris 30-25 in the game.
 
Minnesota State (4-2-0) opens WCHA action on Thursday to face the University of Minnesota (4-1-0) in Minneapolis, Minn., at 7:07 p.m.
