What Lies Ahead:  The Minnesota State closes a two-game roadtrip Saturday as it travels to Upper Iowa for a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference South Division showdown with the Peacocks.

A Little History Lesson: The 2011 season marks the school's 85th season playing football.  The Mavericks are 377-374-28 (.503) in 779 games since their inception as a varsity sport in 1922.  Minnesota State is in its fourth season in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and owns a 27-7 record in league action.  Over the course of its history, MSU has claimed 17 conference championships including 15 NIC titles.

What's in a Win:  A win would give MSU its 378th win in school history...A victory would be the 30th victory for head coach Todd Hoffner at MSU and the 76th victory of his career...A win would give MSU its 28th victory in the Northern Sun Conference...A win would push MSU's all-time record against Upper Iowa to 6-0, including 3-0 in Fayette.

Scouting Upper Iowa:  Upper Iowa enters this weekend's game with a 3-3 record, including a 2-3 mark in the NSIC and a 0-1 record in NSIC South Division play.  

Last weekend, the Peacocks earned a 31-21 victory at Minnesota, Crookston.  UIU scored 24 unanswered points to secure the win.

Freshman running back Chris Smith led all Peacock rushers with 19 carries for 64 yards and three scores while redshirt freshman quarterback Cole Jaeschke completed 16-of-27 passes for 270 yards and a score.  Redshirt freshman wideout Shay Gutman caught five passes for 112 yards in the win.  Defensively, sophomore Ethan Douglas led all tacklers with 13 stops, including two and a half for a loss.

For the season, Upper Iowa is averaging 155.2 yards per game on the ground and 223.2 yards in the air for a total of 378.3 yards of total offense per contest. Upper Iowa's opponents are averaging 407.2 yards per game of total offense.
    
Smith leads all rushers with 395 yards on the ground, averaging 79 yards per game and 5.6 yards per carry to go with his five scores.  Jaeschke has completed 83-of-141 passes for 1,295 yards and six scores averaging 215.8 yards per game while senior wideout Jesse Hubbard has caught 23 passes for a team-high 570 yards and five scores, averaging 95 yards per game and 24.8 yards per catch.  Junior linebacker Tony Leggett leads the team in tackles with 62, including three for a loss.  He has also recovered three fumbles.  The Peacocks are coached by Tom Shea. Shea, who won an NAIA national championship in 1990 at Peru State, owns a 6-17 record with the Peacocks.

Series Notes:  Minnesota State leads the all-time series, 5-0, which is still in its relatively infant stages...Junior wideout Adam Thielen leads MSU in receiving against the Peacocks with nine catches for 109 yards in two games against UIU while also returning two punts for 23 yards...Junior wideout Dennis Carter has two career carries for 23 yards and one catch for seven yards against Upper Iowa...Sophomore quarterback/wideout Jon Wolf rushed three times for 14 yards last year against Upper Iowa and caught five passes for 93 yards...Junior defensive back Robert Gunderson, junior linebacker Ross Jirgl, senior defensive back Andre LaGrone, junior defensive tackle Austin Schachtner and sophomore defensive end Chris Schaudt all have three tackles in their career against the Peacocks.

Weather Report:  According to weather.com, Saturday's high in Fayette is to be around 67 with partly cloud skies.
    
Radio Show and Weekly Luncheons: The Todd Hoffner Radio Show will air live on AM 1230 KYSM, the Fan Mankato from 7-7:30 at the downtown Buffalo Wild Wings location.  The show will be hosted by Mike Sullivan and/or Casey Lloyd, the voices of the Maverick football program and will feature head coach Todd Hoffner as the Mavericks will recap the previous week's contest and look ahead at their next opponent.  Each week a special guest will also make an appearance during the show.

Additionally, the Loose Moose will host the Maverick Football Luncheon on the Friday before each home game. Each luncheon will feature comments from Coach Hoffner as well as players and are open to everyone.  The Loose Moose will have lunch menu items available to order during this time.
