Box Score Mankato, Minn.— Minnesota State sophomore forward
Kathleen Rogan scored four goals en route to the Mavericks 10-2 win over Lindenwood University. This is a career-high for Rogan as she is the first player MSU player to net four goals since Melanie Salatino on Oct. 17, 2003. Minnesota State ten goals marks the first time its scored double-digit goals since it beat Bemidji State 12-0 in 1999.
MSU wasted no time to bring out its offense powers on Saturday as it jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first period, outshooting LU 26-5 in the first twenty minutes.
The Mavericks outshot the Lions 62-16 in the game and converted on three of its seven power-plays. MSU scored a five-on-four goal in every period as Rogan had two of the power-play goals and
Kari Lundberg marked the third special teams goal.
MSU sophomore Kara Power scored the opening goal just under five minutes in to the game as
Lauren Barnes and
Lauren Zrust got the assists. Sophomore
Tracy McCann scored two goals in the first period, 28 seconds apart from one another to put MSU up 3-0 not even eight minutes into the game. Rogan scored the final two MSU goals of the first before Alison Wickenheiser put the Lions on the board.
Rogan kept things rolling on a power-play goal from Barnes 6:21 into the second period before LU's Samantha Moore scored a short-hander on the Mavericks to force the score to 6-2. MSU junior defenseman
Emilia Andersson's second period goal lifted the MSU lead to 7-2 heading into the third.
From that point on it was all Minnesota State as sophomore
Nicole Germaine scored at the just over two minutes in the third on a rebound in front of the goal to put the Mavericks up 8-2. McCann and senior
Ariel Mackley marked assistes on a Lundberg power-play goal 13:30 into the third before Rogan would tally her fourth goal of the night. Leinonen and Barnes assisted Rogan's fourth lamp-lighter.
The Friday night hero,
Lauren Barnes, ended the night with three assists Saturday. Junior forward
Lauren Smith also tallied three assists in the game. Zrust and McCann totaled two helpers as
Erika Magnusson and Mackley got one assist in the game.
MSU (2-0-0) continues action next weekend at home against Mercyhurst in a two-game series at All Seasons Arena. Friday is scheduled for a 6 p.m., puck drop.
