Box Score Bemidji, Minn. --- The Mavericks dropped game two of its series with Bemidji State Saturday, 3-1.
Minnesota State drops to 6-17-3 overall and 5-14-1-0 in the WCHA, while Bemidji State improves to 12-9-3 overall and 10-7-3-2 in the WCHA.
The Mavericks are now 0-12-2 in their last 14 games and the sweep marks the seventh of its kind this season.
The Beavers jumped out to an early lead at the 3:27 mark of the first when winger Lauren Williams was able to flip the puck past MSU netminder Alli Altmann’s blocker with a pile of skaters in front of the Mavericks net. The goal was the first of Williams’ career and was assisted by senior Erin Cody and freshman Danielle Williams.
BSU senior winger Annie Bauerfeld put the Beavers up 2-0 10:13 into the first when she picked up the puck at the left circle beat Altmann high stick side. Junior blueliner Montana Vichorek assisted on the goal.
The Mavericks made it a 2-1 game at the 2:25 mark of the second when freshman forward Kathleen Rogan stole the puck in MSU’s zone, entered BSU’s zone alone and beat Bemidji State goaltender Zuzana Tomcikova stick side, low. The unassisted goal marked the eleventh of the season for Rogan and her third unassisted tally of the year.
Bemidji State’s Sadie Lundquist tallied an empty net goal with just 00:07 left in the third period to make the final, 3-1.
The Beavers and Minnesota State each finished with 24 shots, while MSU went 0-for-3 with an extra skater and Bemidji State went 0-for-1.
Tomcikova finished with a game-high 23 saves, while Altmann stopped 21 BSU shots.
The Mavericks will hit the road again next weekend as they travel to Grand Forks, N.D. to face the University of North Dakota for a couple of WCHA contests. Both Friday and Saturday’s games start at 7:07 p.m.
