Minnesota State to Face Bemidji State in WCHA Action this Weekend

Mankato, Minn.--- Minnesota Sate (6-15-3 overall, 5-12-1-0 WCHA) travel to Bemidji, Minn. to take-on the Beavers of Bemidji State (10-9-3 overall, 8-7-3-2 WCHA) this weekend, January 21-22. The two team will meet at Bemidji State’s new hockey facility, the Sanford Center, Friday and Saturday at 2:07 p.m.

Program History:
The 2010-11 season will mark the 13th year of women’s hockey as a varsity sport at Minnesota State…MSU has competed in 443 games...The Mavericks hold a 126-277-40 (.330) all-time record.

Follow the Leader:
Junior defenseman Ariel Mackley serves as the team captain this season, with juniors forward Moira O’Connor and junior defenseman Jackie Otto as the alternate captains.

A Look at the Beavers:  The Bemidji State Beavers own a 10-9-3 overall record with a 8-7-3-2 mark in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association...Last time they were on the ice they were swept by North Dakota on the road, with scores of 5-2 on 1/14 and a 6-2 lose on 1/15...They have recorded 43 goals to their opponents 53 goals...Bemidji State has scored 14 goals in the first period, 18 in the second, 10 in the third and one overtime goal...The Beavers have tallied 640 shots to their opponents 635 shots...BSU is 13/86 (.151) on the power play, while its opponents are 12/85 (.141)...The Beavers have eight skaters that have had at least one goal and have had 16 skaters that have had at least one point this season...Bemidji State is led by: senior forward Erin Cody (14-14--28), sophomore forward Emily Erickson (12-9--21), senior forward Annie Bauerfield (5-11--16) and sophomore forward Sadie Lundquist (5-8--13)...Erickson is the owner of a team-high five power play goals...Junior defenseman Marlee Wheelhouse leads the team in penalties with nine for 29 minutes...BSU has had one primary goaltender in net for them this season, junior netminder Zuzana Tomcikova who owns a 9-8-2 record, a 2.15 G.A.A., .925 save percentage and 480 saves...Bemidji State’s head coach is Steve Sertich who is in his third season as the leader of the Beavers women’s hockey program...Owner of a 25-59-11 record while coaching the Bemidji State.

MSU/BSU History:
The Minnesota State Mavericks are owners of a 20-18-10 overall record against Bemidji State...The two teams faced-off earlier this season in Mankato, Minn. and the Mavericks finished the series with a 0-1-1 record...In the two games the Mavericks scored two goals, junior forward Moria O’Connor and freshman Kathleen Rogan tallied the two goals...Four different Mavericks earned assists on the goals: sophomore Lauren Smith, sophomore Emila Andersson, junior Ariel Mackley and senior Nina Tikkinen.
