Marshall, Minn. --- The fourteenth-ranked Minnesota State volleyball team lost its first game of the season to #5 Southwest Minnesota State, 3-0.The Mavericks lost their games by scores of 25-13, 25-23 and 25-21.
The Mavericks were led by senior outside hitter Amanda Beekman who tallied 11 kills, while senior right-side hitter Kimber Kuhl finished with nine. Junior setter Brittany Stamer again led MSU in assists, having earned 23.
Defensivly, junior defensive specialist Alli Rice finished with a team-best 14 digs and sophomore middle blocker Courtney Steinhauser and sophomore outside hitter Chelsea Fogarty each finished with three blocks.
“We didn’t get the result we wanted, but we did get a chance to find out where we stand,” said head coach Dennis Amundson. “Once we settled down it was a great match. We’re looking forward to our showdown with Concordia on Tuesday.”
The Mavericks (9-1 overall, 1-1 NSIC) will look to get back on track Tuesday when they host Concordia University for their first home game of the season. The two teams are scheduled to get started at 7:00 p.m. at Taylor Center in Mankato, Minn.
