Mankato, Minn. — Minnesota State (10-4) opens the home portion of its schedule Thursday as it entertains Waldorf College. First pitch for the doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m.
What's in a Pair of Wins: Should Minnesota State pick up a pair of victories over Waldorf Thursday, it would mark the 799 and 800th victories of head coach Lori Meyer.
Minnesota State History: The 2010 season is the 37th for Maverick softball. MSU owns an all-time record of 842-613-7(.588) in 1,438 games, and have four North Central Conference titles (1984, 1987, 1989, 2007) and six appearances in the NCAA Division II National Tournament (1984, 1987, 1989, 1995, 1997, 2007) to its credit.
Who We Are: According to official university guidelines, there are only three acceptable usages of the school name. The first is “Minnesota State University, Mankato” and this is only to be used in the first reference of the school. Following that, the only other acceptable usages of the school name are “Minnesota State” or “MSU” and no others. Minnesota State Athletic Communications appreciates all cooperation in this matter.
Head Coach Lori Meyer: One of the most respected coaches in all of NCAA Division II softball, Lori Meyer is in her 25th year as the head coach of the Minnesota State softball team, and also is “The Dean of the NCC” as the longest-tenured coach in the league. Meyer owns a career record of 798-536-3 (.597) in 1,337 games. A seven-time NCC Coach of the Year, Meyer has guided the Mavericks to three North Central Conference titles (1987, 1989 and 2007), and guided the ‘87 Mavericks to a third-place finish at the NCAA Division II National Tournament.
