Smyrna, Tenn. --- The #14 Minnesota State University women's bowling team concluded its 2009-10 campaign with a 2-1 record in the final day of competition at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic, finishing in 10th place. With the results, MSU ends the year with a 46-42 record.
All three matches today were Baker Format (Best 4-out-of-7), and in the opener against #15 Alabama A&M, the Mavericks found themselves in a huge hole early, dropping the first three games of the opening match. However, Minnesota State avoided the sweep with a win in the fourth game, and the momentum swung permantly in its favor as the Mavericks rallied all the way back from a 3-0 deficit to earn a 4-3 (149-163, 172-202, 158-217, 181-177, 214-143, 171-167, 215-201) victory.
Against Alabama A&M, senior Ashley Clinchoc and freshman Hali Clark each had only one open frame and six strikes apiece. In the seventh and deciding game of the match, the Mavericks closed out with nine consecutive marks, including notching strikes in five of the final six frames.
MSU then squared off against #10 Valparaiso, and split the opening four games of the match before taking the final two en route to a 4-2 (137-147, 218-180, 172-163, 181-183, 176-157, 194-164) triumph. Junior Sarah Izydorek managed to fill in 11 of 12 frames in the win against the Crusaders. In the clinching game of the match, Minnesota State opened with nine consecutive marks.
In their final contest of the season, the Mavericks fell to #17 Louisiana Tech 4-2 (170-190, 178-165, 167-201, 198-222, 160-135, 162-179). Clark recorded a clean sheet in the finale, marking in all 12 frames and recording six strikes while doing so. Clinchoc and fellow senior Lisa Hoover each closed out their respective Maverick careers against the Lady Techsters.
