Smyrna, Tenn. --- The #19 Minnesota State University women’s bowling team finished the 2010-11 season with an 15th-place finish at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic after going a perfect 3-0 in three Baker Format (Best 4-of-7 Games) contests Sunday.
The Mavericks wrapped up the 2010-11 campaign with a record of 33-42.
MSU opened with its longest match of the day, downing #12 Valparaiso 4-2. After the Mavericks dropped the first game of the match, they ripped off three straight wins, and then closed out the contest with a match-high score of 186 in the sixth game. Both junior Kelsey Dunkle and sophomore Jackie Nolt each had only two opens in 12 frames of action, with Dunkle contributing six strikes.
Monmouth was Minnesota State’s next opponent, and the Mavericks made quick work of the match via a 4-1 victory. The Mavericks jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, thanks to a 190 in the second contest. Monmouth took game three, but MSU closed out the match with convincing wins in the fourth and fifth games to move onto the 15th-place match. Sophomore Hali Clark marked in all 10 frames, while Dunkle and senior Sarah Izydorek each had only one open apiece.
In the finale, MSU dropped the opening game against Louisiana Tech by only six pins. That close loss served as a rallying point for the Mavericks though as Minnesota State ripped off wins in the next four games to close out the match with a 4-1 victory. Izydorek had an especially clutch performance in the fourth game as she needed at least two strikes and a six count in the 10th to give MSU the win, and she recorded two strikes and a nine to give the Mavericks a 3-1 advantage at that point.
