Mavericks To Play Final Home Game

Looking Ahead: The Minnesota State Mavericks will host their final home game of the regular season Wed. in the Taylor Center against Augustana at 6 p.m., then travel to Bismarck, N.D. to take on the University of Mary Saturday at 2 p.m.

What’s in a Win:
A win Wednesday would mark the 578th win in program history...A victory would also mark the 84th win in the Taylor Center and 12 this season....A win Wednesday would be the 47th win for the Mavericks under head coach Pam Gohl.

MSU-AC Notables:
Wednesday’s contest will be the 58th match-up between the two teams. The Maverick’s overall record against the Vikings is 22-35. The first time the two teams met was in 1982 when the Mavericks were defeated by the Vikings 67-60. In the last two seasons, the two teams have met four times with a tie record 2-2. Last season, Minnesota State went 2-1 against the Vikings. MSU lost their first game of the 32-2 season at home against the Vikings, 95-89 in overtime, then avenged the loss on the road defeating the Vikings, 82-50, and once more in the NCAA Central Region Tournament, 81-68. A month ago Jan. 23, the Mavericks were on the road and defeated by the Vikings, 84-66. Senior forward Liz Trauger led the Mavericks with 23 points, but MSU was outrebounded by the Vikings, 40-32. The Vikings were led by junior guard Megan Doyle with 19 points.

Viking Views: 
The Vikings ended their 2008-09 campaign with an overall record of 20-10 and 13-7, finishing fourth in the NSIC. Augustana averaged 73 points per game last season.
    In the 2009 NSIC Women’s Basketball Pre-Season Coaches Poll, Augustana was ranked third with two, first place votes and 145 points. The Vikings have tallied a record of 20-5 overall and 14-4 in the NSIC this season, currently tied at the second place position with Wayne State in the NSIC. Last weekend the Vikings went 2-0 on the road, defeating Mary Friday evening, 86-83, and Northern State Saturday evening 79-57. This season Augustana is averaging 79.7 points per game shooting, 45 percent from the field, 36.3 from the arc and 71.3 percent at the line. The Vikings are averaging 39.6 rebounds per game. Leading the Vikings in scoring is junior guard Megan Doyle with 14.5 points per game, followed by sophomore guard Molly Hayes with 11.4 points per game. Leading the board attack for Augustana is junior forward Kristi Board with 6.0 rebounds per game.

All-Time:
The 2009-10 season marks the 45th year of women’s basketball as a varsity sport at Minnesota State. MSU currently holds a 577-518 (.527) and has made three NCAA Tournament Appearances in 1986, 2008 and 2009.

Who We Are:
According to official University guidelines, there are only three acceptable usages of the school name. The first official acceptable name is “Minnesota State University, Mankato” and is to only be used on the first reference of the school. Following that, the only other acceptable usages of the school name are “Minnesota State,” or “MSU”.
