Box Score MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State University welcomed North Dakota for a weekend tilt at All Seasons Arena in Mankato, Minn. The Mavericks entered Friday night’s game with a 6-19-5 record while the Fighting Sioux owned a 7-19-4 record.
Early in the first, Minnesota State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a goal from senior Captain Kala Buganski (Andover, Minn.). Buganski received a tremendous cross-net pass from sophomore winger Lisa Edman (Ornskoldsvik, Sweden) from the left circle and beat UND goaltender Jorid Dagfinrud top-shelf glove side. Senior forward Ashley Young also assisted on the goal.
MSU senior forward Christina Lee (Maple Plain, Minn.) put the Mavericks up 2-0 at the 14:34 mark of the second when she converted on a breakaway and beat Dagfinrud with a backhand shot stick side.
Late in the second UND winger Sara Dagenais beat MSU’s netminder Alli Altmann (Eagan, Minn.) high, glove side to cut into the deficit; Kelly Lewis assisted on the UND goal.
Jackie Otto (Lake Zurich, Ill.) lit the lamp early in the third period receiving an excellent setup from Lee and Young giving MSU a 3-1 lead. UND’s Margot Miller tallied a goal with 18 seconds left for the Fighting Sioux.
The Mavericks outshot the Fighting Sioux, 34-21. MSU goaltender Alli Altmann finished with 19 saves while UND’s Jorid Dagfinrud recorded 31 saves.
The two squads will face off tomorrow with the puck dropping at 3:07 at All Seasons Arena.
