Minnesota State to Host St. Cloud State in WCHA-Series

Mankato, Minn.--- The Minnesota State women’s hockey team (2-5-1, 1-5-0 Overall) plays host to the St. Cloud State Huskies this weekend. Friday’s contest is scheduled to start at 7:07 p.m. and Saturday’s is scheduled to start at 3:07 p.m. Both games to be played at All Seasons Arena.

Program History:
The 2010-11 season will mark the 13th year of women’s hockey as a varsity sport at Minnesota State…The Mavericks hold a 122-267-38 (.330) all-time record.

Follow the Leader: Junior defenseman Arial Mackley will serve as the team captain this season, with juniors forward Moira O’Connor and junior defenseman Jackie Otto as the alternate captains.

A Look at the Huskies:  St. Cloud State owns a 0-9-0 overall record with a 0-5-0 mark in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association...They have recorded six goals to their opponents 42 goals...St. Cloud has given up 19 goals in the first period, 13 in the second and 10 in the third...The Hukies have tallied 181 shots to their opponents 356 shots...SCSU is 2-38 (.053) on the power play, while their opponents at 12-44 (.273)...The Huskies have three players tied for the team lead in points: sophomore forward Kylie Lane (2-0--2), freshman forward Julia Gilbert (1-1--2) and sophomore forward Alex Nelson (1-1--2)...Nelson and Gilbert each own one power play goal...Besides leading the team in points, Lane also is the owner of a team-high six penalties for 12 minutes...St. Cloud State has two goaltenders in net for them this season...Senior netminder Ashley Nixon, who owns a 0-7-0 record, a 4.49 goals against average, a .891 save percentage and 238 saves...Junior goaltender Tayler VanDenakker, who owns a 0-2-0 record, a 5.19 goals against average, a .854 save percentage and 76 saves.

MSU/SCSU History: The Minnesota State Mavericks are owners of a 22-22-5 overall record against St. Cloud State...The two teams faced-off four times last season, which resulted in a 1-2-1 record for the Mavericks..The Mavericks lone win last season came at home on 2/7/10, a 4-0 shut-out victory...The tie between the two teams came on 12/4/09...Junior Emmi Leinonen finished last season agasint SCSU with 2-2--4, junior forward Moria O’Connor tallied 1-2--3 and sophomore Lauren Smith had 0-2--2...Junior captain and defenseman Arial Mackley has had a lot of her success against the Huskies, scoring her first career goal on 2/7/09, then earning her first career assist on 2/28/09...She then tallied the only other goal of her career last season on 2/7/10 against the Huskies.
