Minnesota State Prepares for Two Games This Week

Looking Ahead: Minnesota State will play two nonconference games this week. The Mavericks will host Dakota State on Tonight at 7 p.m. MSU will then travel to UW- Eau Claire on Saturday at 7 p.m.

MSU-Dakota State Notables:
Tuesday’s contest will be the fourth meeting in the two school’s history. The Mavericks lead the series 3-0 in the previous games. The last time the two team met was in 2008 as the Maverick won 105-65. The two other MSU wins came in 2006 and 2007, with the Mavericks winning 95-82 in 07’ and 85-65 in 06’.

A Bit About the Trojans:
The Trojans come into the game 2-3 this season. Dakota State is coming off a 90-37 victory over Trinity Bible last Friday. The Trojans faced  Morris last Thursday and lost 63-71. Freshman guard Kylie Westover leads Dakota State averaging 11.25 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game. Junior Aneshia Starks averages 2.75 assists and 3.00 steals per game. Joe Reints is in his thisb season as the Trojans head coach, previously coaching at Lambuth University.

All-Time:
The 2010-11 season marks the 46th year of women’s basketball as a varsity sport at Minnesota State. MSU currently holds a 578-520 (.526) and has made three NCAA Tournament Appearances in 1986, 2008 and 2009.

MSU/ UW-Eau Claire Notables: This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.

Double or Nothing: Sophomore Ali Wilkinson scored back-to-back double-doubles last weekend, capturing the MVP title of the Maverick Classic. Wilkinson scored 12 points and 11 rebounds as the Mavericks toppled Grand View 56-46. Saturday the Mavericks faced California (PA) and Wilkinson generated 16 points and 11 rebounds in the 59-56 MSU victory. Wilkinson now owns four career double-doubles at Minnesota State.

Mavericks Last Weekend:
Minnesota State kicked off the 2010-11 season by hosting the Maverick Classic in Mankato. MSU earned a 56-46 victory over Grand View College, marking the 11th straight opening day victory for Minnesota State. The Mavericks returned Saturday as they earne a 59-56 victory over preseason #12 California (PA) in the final game of the Maverick Classic.

Where We Call Home: The Minnesota State women’s basketball team has called the friendly confines of Bresnan Arena at Taylor Center home for ten seasons. All-time, the Mavericks are 83-57 (.593) at Taylor Center, including a 16-2 mark in the 2008-09 season. The 16 wins were the most wins at Taylor Center in one season. In the 2009-10 season the Mavericks finished the season with an 11-3 record at the Taylor Center.
 
On the Road Again:
The Minnesota State women’s basketball team finished the 2008-09 season with a 16-0 road record. Over the last six seasons the Mavericks have compiled a 47-44 (.516) record away from the Taylor Center. Last season the Mavericks went 4-10 on their road-trips. The four road wins come from the victories over Northern State, Upper Iowa, Southwest Minn. St., and U-Mary. While being defeated by Winona State twice, Bemidji State, Minnesota Crookston, MSU Moorhead, Wayne State, Augustana, Concordia-St.Paul twice, and St. Cloud State.
