Crookston, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyballers improved their record to 17-7 overall and 9-7 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference after downing the winless Minnesota, Crookston Golden Eagles, 3-1.
MSU dropped the opening set, 22-25, but rebounded to earn victories of 25-21, 25-11 and 25-20 in the second, third and fourth sets.
Senior outside hitter Amanda Beekman led the team in kills with 16, while senior middle blocker Amanda Thompson (12), sophomore outside hitter Chelsea Fogarty (11) and senior right-side hitter Kimber Kuhl (11) all contributed in the winning effort. Thompson used only 22 attempts to tally her 11 kills, giving her a .500 hitting percentage.
Junior setter Brittany Stamer dished out 53 helpers, while sophomore defensive specialist Samantha Dale tallied 18 digs.
Thompson continued to protect the net, stuffing five Golden Eagle hits.
The Mavericks travel to Aberdeen, S.D., to face Northern State Friday at 7:00 p.m.
