Mavericks Upend Top-Ranked Wayne State in Four

Mankato, Minn.  —  Sixteenth-ranked Minnesota State picked up a key Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory Friday evening when it upended top-ranked and previously undefeated Wayne State, 3-1, in front of 379 fans in the Taylor Center on the campus of Minnesota State University.

MSU opened the match with a 25-17 win before Wayne State rebounded to win the second game by the same score.

In a thrilling third game – one which featured 68 combined points – the Mavericks used kills by sophomore
Chelsea Fogarty and senior Amanda Beekman to close out the game, earning a 35-33 win.  

In the fourth game was just as thrilling, however MSU never trailed en route to a 25-17 victory.

Beekman finished the night with a game-high 23 kills and to go with 20 digs.  Sophomore
Megan Ysker – while hitting .432 –  added 21 kills to go with five total blocks, three of which were solo.  Junior setter Brittany Stamer finished with 23 digs and season-high 67 assists while sophomore Samantha Dale added 31 digs.  Fogarty contributed 14 kills and 14 digs while sophomore Jill Storlie added 22 digs.

Minnesota State (12-4, 4-4 NSIC) returns to action Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m., when it hosts Augustana.
