Minnesota State Prevails in Overtime Against UND

Minnesota State beat the University of North Dakota 2-1 in a overtime thriller in Grand Forks Sunday - beating the NCAA Division I school improves MSU's record to 5-4-1 this season.

MSU outshot the Fighting Sioux 7-6 in the first half, with neither team able to score.

At 69:04, North Dakota forward Sheri Stapf scored on a penalty kick to help the Fighting Sioux go ahead 1-0. MSU applied the pressure with 14 shots in the second half, that led to an unassisted Nicole Dooher goal in the 83rd minute. Dooher has four goals and 11 points this season for MSU. The Mavericks accumulated nine shots on goal in regulation, UND had five. Dooher recorded four shots on goal during the game.

Minnesota State sophomore Brittany Henry  scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime at 104:11, with Cassie Weik gaining the assist. UND  had one shot on goal in overtime.

Chelsey Eley
received the win for the Mavericks, earning five saves on the day.  Eley now holds a 1.63 goals against average and a .733 save percentage Eley has a 4-3-1 record on the season.

MSU is 5-4-1 this season with a 3-1-1 record in the NSIC. The Mavericks play at Augustana Friday in their next action, then travel to Wayne State Sunday to take on the Wildcats.
