Mavericks and #1 Badgers to Square-Off in League Series

Program History: The 2010-11 season will mark the 13th year of women’s hockey as a varsity sport at Minnesota State…The Mavericks currently hold a 122-265-38 (.365) all-time record.

Follow the Leader: Junior defenseman Arial Mackley will serve as the team captain this season, with juniors forward Moira O’Connor and junior defenseman Jackie Otto as the alternate captains.

A Look at the Badgers:  Wisconsin, ranked-first in the nation, is 6-0-0 overall in 2010-11 and 4-0-0-0 in the WCHA...WU is currently led by junior forward Hilary Knight who is the owner of 11 points (7-4--11) and  Brianna Decker who is the owner of ten points (4-6--10)... In net for the Badgers is Becca Ruegsegger who has played and started three games, owns a 0.67 G.A.A., 38 saves, a .950 save percentage and a 3-0-0 record, along-side Alex Rigsby who has played and started three contests, owner of a 1.98 G.A.A., 37 saves, a .860 save percentage and a 3-0-0 record...Wisconsin extended its season-opening winning streak to six games with a series sweep over then #10 Ohio State Oct. 22-23. The Badgers won a 6-5 overtime thriller on Friday night before following up with a 5-2 victory over the Buckeyes Saturday night.

MSU/UW History: The Minnesota State Mavericks are owners of a 1-43-2 overall record against Wisconsin...The two teams faced-off four times last season, in which resulted in a 1-3-0 record in favor of the Badgers...Last season’s win over UW came on the road, and marked the first time the Mavericks had ever beaten the Badgers...Goaltender Alli Altmann tallied a career-best 48 saves in the game...Sophomore forward Lauren Zrust and junior defenseman Jenna Peterson each recorded career highs in the victory, Zrust netting two goals and Peterson recording two assists...In all of of MSU’s games last year, sophomore Lauren Smith tallied a team-high three assists.
