#16 Mavericks and #5 SMSU Face-Off Saturday in Mankato

Top-25 Battle:  The Minnesota State volleyball squad, ranked 16th in the nation, currently owns a 16-6 overall record and are 8-6 in Northern Sun Intercollegaite Conference matches. This week, MSU will play only one game, Saturday night as they play host to #5 Southwest Minnesota State at Talyor Center. The Match is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. This will mark the first time all season that the Mavericks have only had one match over the course of a week.

Program history:
The 2010 volleyball season marks the 43rd year of volleyball as a varsity sport...Over the 43 seasons, the Mavericks hold a 679-550-8 record...The Mavericks have made seven NCAA post-season appearances, and they are: 1990, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2007 and 2009.

Quick Notes:  The Minnesota State Volleyball team is 16-6 overall, 8-6 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference...Senior outside hitter Amanda Beekman currently leads the team in kills with 277 (3.55 per set) and sits fourth all-time on the kills list with 1,349, 30 short of taking over the third spot all-time, which is 1,379 and occupied by former MSU outside hitter, Ashley Nachreiner...Senior right-side hitter Kimber Kuhl is the owner of a team-best .335 hitting percentage, while also sitting third on the team in kills with 215...Junior Brittany Stamer recently joined the Maverick 3,000 Assist Club, currently at 3,166 during her career, 305 short of fourth all-time...Stamer owns 922 on the season...Sophomore Samantha Dale sits atop the team digs list with 262 this season...Senior middle blocker Amanda Thompson owns a team-best 62 blocks (0.77 blocks per set).

Southwest Minnesota State Notes: The fifth-ranked Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs currently own a 20-3 overall record, and are 12-2 in the NSIC...The 12-2 NSIC mark puts them tied for second with #3 Minnesota Duluth and T-#1 Wayne State...Concordia sits first in the league with a 14-0 league mark...Devin Diedrich currently leads the team in kills with 367, while Mary Groth (319) and Brooke Burmeister (284) are also among the teams top scorers...Setting up those hitters is Cara Carson, who has tallied 1,023 assists this season...Placing the ball for their setter, leading the squad in digs is Kenzie Niesche and Rachel Westby who own 355 and 276 digs, respectively.

MSU/SMSU History: The Mavericks have faced the Mustangs 42 times and own a 27-15 mark against SMSU...Earlier this season the Mavericks traveled to Marshall, Minn. to face-off against the Mustangs, but were defeated by a score of 3-1.

Last Week:
The Mavericks dropped Tuesday’s league-match to the sixth-ranked Wayne State Wildcats, 3-1, but rebounded for a couple NSIC victories Friday and Saturday...MSU defeated Upper Iowa Friday, 3-1, then swept Winona State Saturday, 3-0.
