Box Score Fayette, Iowa— Minnesota State was downed 2-1 by Upper Iowa in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference showdown Saturday. The loss marked the Mavericks first loss in seven games.
With no scoring in the first half, MSU outshot UIU 10-1 after 45 minutes of play.
At 49:28 in the second half, Peacock forward Alyssa Petersburg scored from ten yards out, Valeria Ptasinski was credited with the assist. Upper Iowa expanded its lead in the 54th minute as Liz Kaluzinski found the back of the net as Emily Gielau and Vicki Booth earned the assist. The Mavericks peppered the Peacocks generating seven more shots on goal in the second half.
Brianne West hammered a rebound away in the 65th minute to cut the UIU lead to one. Both teams were unable to score the rest of the game, with the Mavericks finishing with 22 shots.
Brittany Cygan got the start for MSU, making two saves on the day. Cygan owns a record of 3-2 this season with a 0.92 save percentage.
Minnesota State, 9-5-1 on the year and 7-2-1 in the NSIC has won six out of its last seven games. MSU continues play with a match-up against Winona State Sunday.
