Mankato, Minn. – The Minnesota State University women’s hockey team defeated sixth-rated University of North Dakota Friday evening, 4-2, earning their first WCHA victory of the season.

 Rookie forward Kathleen Rogan finished the contest with three goals. The hat trick marks the first for MSU since former Maverick Ashley Young tallied three goals against Bemidji State in 2008.

UND opened the scoring in the first period with a goal from forward Jocelyne Lamoureux. The goal came at the 14:33 mark and was assisted by line-mate Monique Lamoureux. The Mavericks quickly answered, just nine seconds later with a goal by freshman Kathleen Rogan. The goal was assisted by sophomore Lauren Smith.

After entering the period tied at one each, the Mavericks got the action going with another goal by Rogan. This one came on an unassisted break away, short-handed. UND answered with a power play tally by Allison Parizek at 11:06 in the second.

MSU scored two goals in third period to take the lead, freshman Tracy McCann tallied the game-winner and was assisted by senior Amy Udvig and freshman Nicole Germaine.

Rogan then gave the Mavericks a 4-2 lead when she netted her third goal of the evening on another unassisted break away.

Freshman goaltender, Danielle Butters, received her first career win on the evening and racked up 28 saves.

UND outshot the Mavericks, 30-21. North Dakota finished 1-4 on the power play, while MSU went 0-3.

The Mavericks (2-2-1, 1-2-0-0 WCHA) and UND(4-3-0, 3-2-0-0 WCHA) are back in action tomorrow at 3:07 p.m.
