Mankato, Minn. --- The Thirteenth-Ranked Minnesota State Volleyball squad was defeated by the MSU-Moorhead Dragons Saturday afternoon, 3-2.
MSU took the opening set 25-20, dropped set two and three 21-25 and 19-25, took the fourth set 25-16, but lost the fifth set, 14-16. The Mavericks were unable to overcome their 13 service errors.
Leading the Mavericks in kills was senior right-side hitter Kimber Kuhl, who tallied 16, while sophomore outside hitter Chelsea Fogarty (14), sophomore right-side hitter Megan Ysker (13) and Amanda Beekman (11) each finished with 11 or more kills. As a team, MSU finished with 70 kills, while the Dragons tallied 62.
Besides leading the Mavericks in kills, Kuhl also finished with a team-high .452 hitting percentage, junior setter Brittany Stamer tallied a season-best 59 assists to lead the team.
Junior defensive specialist Alli Rice tallied a season-high 25 digs, while senior middle blocker Amanda Thompson protected the net, tallying four blocks.
The Mavericks (11-4 overall, 3-4 NSIC) will continue their home stand next weekend when they host #2 Wayne State Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Augustana on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
