St. Cloud, Minn. --- The fourteenth-ranked Minnesota State volleyball team defeated the St. Cloud State Huskies Saturday afternoon, 3-1.
Minnesota State took the first two sets by scores of 33-31 and 25-20, the Huskies took the third 25-21 and MSU finished off the Huskies in the fourth, 25-22.
Junior setter Brittany Stamer joined the Maverick 3,000 Assist Club after recording 58 assists Saturday afternoon. The 58 assists put Stamer at 3,045 during her career as a Maverick. She becomes only the fifth Maverick to record over 3,000 assists in a career in MSU program history.
Leading MSU in scoring was senior outside hitter Amanda Beekman who tallied a team-best 17 kills. Four other Mavericks finished with double-digit kills, including sophomore right-side hitter Megan Ysker (14), sophomore outside hitter Chelsea Fogarty (12), senior right-side hitter Kimber Kuhl and senior middle blocker Amanda Thompson (10). Thompson finished with a team-best .533 hitting percentage.
Defensively, sophomore Samantha Dale finished with a team-best 20 digs, while Stamer tallied 17. Kuhl and Ysker each finished with four blocks.
The Mavericks (14-5 overall, 6-5 NSIC) will travel to Wayne, Neb. to face the fourth-rated Wayne State Wildcats next Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
