St. Paul, Minn. --- The #14 Minnesota State Maverick volleyball squad dropped a 3-1 contest to the sixth-ranked Concordia University Golden Bears Friday night.

The Golden Bears took the first two sets convincingly, both with scores of 25-14. The Mavericks then battled in set three, defeating the Golden Bears, 28-26. The two teams went back and forth in the fourth set, with the Golden Bears finishing the match with a 25-23 set victory.

The Mavericks were led by senior outside hitter Amanda Beekman who racked up a team-best 20 kills. Beekman used 47 attempts to tally those kills, giving her an impressive .362 hitting percentage. Senior right-side hitter Kimber Kuhl and sophomore right-side hitter Megan Ysker helped with the scoring, killing 13 and 11, respectively.

Setting up the MSU hitter was veteran, junior setter Brittany Stamer who finished with 48 kills. She is now the owner of 2,987, only 13 assists from joining the Maverick 3,000 Assist Club.

Senior middle blocker Amanda Thompson continued to protect the net for MSU, tallying a team-high four blocks, while sophomore defensive specialist Sam Dale tallied a team-best 17 digs.

The Mavericks (13-5 overall, 5-5 NSIC) will travel to St. Cloud, Minn. to take on the St. Cloud State Huskies tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
