Dowswell Finishes Sixth in The 100-yard Butterfly

Houston, Texas - The Minnesota State men’s swimming and diving team sits in 16th-place with 53 points after the second day of the 2009 NCAA Division II Championships. The event, which is held at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium on the campus of the University of Houston, is part of the NCAA Division II Winter Sports Festival.

Wayne State leads the field with 232.5 points.

Junior Ben Dowswell earned his sixth and seventh All-American honors on the day. Individually, Dowswell swam to a 10th-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of :48.88. In the prelims, Dowswell finished 11th in :49.06, besting his previous best time by .60 seconds. Senior Marty Wahle also swam in the race and finished 17th in the prelims with a time of :49.35, however he did not advance to the finals.

Dowswell joined Wahle and senior Scott Kent and sophomore Chris Gogel to earn 10th-place in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:20.64. The quartet swam to an 11th-place finish in the prelims with a time of 3:21.96.

The four-day long event continues Friday.
