12/11/2009 9:33:34 PM

Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women’s hockey team welcomed the University of Wisconsin to Mankato Friday night at the All Season’s Arena.  The Mavericks entered Friday’s action with a 4-6-4 record overall and 2-6-4-2 in WCHA play.  The Badgers came in ranked #6 nationally and boasting a 10-5-3 record overall and 7-4-1 in conference play.

The Badgers got on the board first at 18:44 of a hard fought first period. Sophomore right wing Brooke Ammerman beat Maverick goaltender Alli Altmann (Eagan, Minn.) stick side.
Ammerman was set up by a nifty combination of passes from Anne Dronen and Brianna Decker.

Ammerman once again found the back of the net at 5:25 in the second period; Ammerman’s goal was assisted by Emily Kranz and Decker. The goalgave the Badgers a 2-0 lead.  The sophomore found a loose puck in front of the net and beat Altmann with a slap shot glove side.

Wisconsin continued the scoring barrage as Wisconsin’s Jasmine Giles lit the lamp at 10:08.  Carolyne Prevost and Alev Kelter assisted Giles’ second period goal.  The Badgers took advantage of a power play while skating 4 on 3 for the goal to cap off the scoring for the night.

Altmann finished the evening with an impressive 29 saves. The Badgers outshot the Mavericks 32-26 on the night. MSU ended the night 0-4 on power play opportunities while the Badgers finished 1-5 with the extra skater.

The two teams will face off again tomorrow at All Seasons Arena in Mankato with the puck dropping at 3:07.
