Mavericks Go 2-2 in First-Day Action at Big Red Invitational
Minnesota State Earns Wins over Elmhurst and Vanderbilt in Lincoln Thursday

       Lincoln, Neb. — The 12-rated Mavericks opened the tournament with a 697-557 win over #17-rated Elmhurst College. MSU trailed by 13 pins after the first game of the match, but outscored the Blue Jays 213-135 in the third game to put the match away.

Fourth-rated Central Missouri handed the Mavericks a 754-735 loss in the second match and top-rated Nebraska put MSU away in the third match by the score of 761-677. MSU rebounded in downing #2 Vanderbilt 787-710 in the last action of the day. Senior Lisa Hoover had seven strikes in eight frames against the Commodores and junior Sarah Izydorek added five strikes and the Mavericks had five strikes fomr the seventh frame on to seal the win. Freshman Hali Clark contributed four strikes in her collegiate debut for the Mavericks.

The Mavericks are now 9-9 for 2009-10 and continue action in Lincoln the next two days.
