Beekman, Mavericks Regain Swagger at Home Over St. Cloud

Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State Mavericks bounced back with a 3-0 shutout over the St. Cloud State Huskies after first loss in 12 matches last evening. The Mavericks earned the shutout by scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 25-22.

Junior outside hitter and Maverick kills leader Amanda Beekman (Marshall, Minn.) earned a team best 14 kills on 27 attempts giving her a team best .519 hitting percentage. Senior right-side hitter Ally Kwikkel (Waverly, Iowa) also participated in the attack earning 11 kills. Setting up the hitters again was Sophomore setter Brittany Stamer (Hutchinson, Minn.) who earned 39 assists in the shutout.

Besides attacking the net on offense, Beekman also protected the net on defense earning a team-high six blocks. Teammates junior middle blocker Amanda Thompson (Stewartville, Minn.) and Kwikkel also joined in on the block party earning five and four, respectively. Freshman defensive specialist Samantha Dale earned a team high 15 digs filling in for the injured Alli Rice.

The Maverick volleyballers, 21-3 overall and 11-1 NSIC, will continue action next weekend, when they travel to Wayne, Neb. to take on Wayne State. The match will start at 7:00 p.m.
