Nick Burns rejoined Minnesota State Athletics as the interim assistant director of athletic communications in January of 2013. He is in his 12th season as Assistant Director of Athletic Communications in 2025-26.
Burns, who owns master’s and undergraduate degrees from MSU, spent the 2007-08 and 2008-09 school years working as a graduate assistant in the athletic communications office at MSU. He worked with all 20 of MSU sports during that time, including serving as the primary contact for the Maverick women’s basketball program, which captured the 2008-09 NCAA Division II national championship. In addition to interning with the Maverick athletic communications office as an undergraduate, Burns also was a reporter for the campus newspaper - the MSU Reporter - where he covered the men's and women's track and field and golf teams and wrote feature stories.
A Bloomington, Minn., native, Burns interned with the athletic media relations department at Tennessee Tech during the course of the 2010-11 and 2011-12 school years where he served as the primary contact for the Golden Eagle volleyball, women's basketball and softball teams.
