Snelson, a native of Mankato and a 2015 Minnesota State University graduate, joined the Maverick staff in July of 2023 after spending the previous three years at Michigan Tech University as Director of Athletic Communications. He is tasked with managing communications and media relations for MSU's 20 Division I-II varsity program. Snelson oversaw Minnesota State's media relations in hosting the 2024 Men's Basketball Central Region Tournament and 2025 Baseball Central Region Tournament as well as MSU men's and women's basketball National Championship title runs in 2023-24.

While at Tech, Snelson was the primary contact for football, men’s and women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s tennis and also worked with men's hockey, men’s and women’s cross country, women’s soccer and track and field programs. He also served as the radio play-by-play voice for MTU basketball and football. Prior to his time at Tech, Snelson spent two years at Montana State Billings, where he held positions as the Interim Director of Communications in 2019-20 and as Assistant Director of Communications for a year.

While at MSU Billings, Snelson won the 2020 District 7 CoSIDA Fred E. Stabley Writing Contest in the category of Social Justice/Diversity & Inclusion and was the primary contact for each of MSUB's 16 Division II varsity sports, handling play-by-play for softball and basketball.
 
Snelson owns a Master’s Degree in Sport Administration from Northern Colorado where he spent two seasons working as a graduate assistant in the sports information office. While at UNC, he was the primary contact for soccer and men’s and women’s tennis. Additionally, Snelson spent one summer as the radio play-by-play voice for the Mankato Moondogs (2017), and was previously the team's Media Relations Intern (2014), official scorer (2015), and team batboy (2001-05). He and his younger sister grew up watching Maverick hockey games.
