ABERDEEN, S.D. — No. 5 Minnesota State played Northern State to a 0-0 tie on Sunday in conference play. The Mavericks extended their shutout streak to six but could not find the back of the net on offense. MSU finished with a 14-8 shot advantage and a 7-2 edge in shots on goal, including nine shots after halftime. Minnesota State has achieved at least seven shots on goal in four consecutive games.
Lauren McAlpine played all 90 minutes in goal, made two saves, and recorded her sixth straight shutout.
Maddix Archer led MSU with four shots and put two on goal.
Meghan Sullivan added three shots, matching Archer with two shots on goal.
Minnesota State created early pressure in the first half, with
Addie Dobratz hitting the crossbar at 4:03, a corner kick following shortly after, and Archer had a penalty kick that was saved by Audrey Burns at 6:44. Northern State answered with a stretch of chances, including Kennedi Gack, Lauren Youngquist, and Jaylee Hofer all recording shots, Youngquist's shot off the top woodwork in the 11th minute but MSU got through it without conceding. The middle of the half became a foul-heavy, physical stretch, as MSU added attempts from
Marin Johnson, Sullivan, and
Megan Grater, but the half ended 0-0.
McAlpine kept MSU level in the 81st minute, stopping Lauren Youngquist's penalty kick with a diving save to keep the match tied 0-0. Earlier, Minnesota State opened the second half with heavy pressure getting shots on frame from
Amara Smith and Sullivan at 49:22 and 49:46. Three corner kicks between the 50th and 65th minute gave the Mavericks numerous chances to no avail. Archer put a shot on goal at 63:43 and Dobratz sent one high at 65:27. After McAlpine added another save on Kylie Albert in the 83rd minute, the Mavericks pushed again with attempts from
Mila Rustin,
Marin Johnson, Archer, and Sullivan over the final seven minutes but came up empty. The second half ended without a goal, and the match finished 0-0.
