BURNSVILLE, Minn. - Minnesota State junior defender Maclayne Menzel has been named NSIC Defensive Player of The Week for her performance against Minot State and UMary. 

The Iowa City native is a piece of a stout Maverick defensive unit that did not allow a goal this past weekend in their matches against Minot State and UMary. Against Minot State, Menzel and co., allowed just one shot on goal in a 1-0 win. Against UMary, Menzel helped hold the Marauders to two shots on net in a 3-0 win. 

Overall, Menzel played 172 of 180 possible minutes, holding the opposition to just three shots on net and no goals. She helped the Mavericks extend their shutout streak to four with the two shutouts this past weekend.  On the season Menzel has played in 442 of the possible 450 minutes, holding her opponents to 29 shots on net and a single goal in 5 matches. 

Menzel and the Mavericks are heading into a NSIC road trip this weekend starting on Friday with a match against Jamestown at 3:00 p.m., and wrapping up with a match against Northern State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
