Maverick Men’s Golf to Open Season at Maverick Fall Brawl

MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State men's golf team opens its 2026-27 fall schedule on Monday as it takes part in the two-day Maverick Fall Brawl.

Maverick Fall Brawl Preview: The two-round Maverick Fall Brawl will be held at the par-71 Troy Burne Golf Club in Hudson, Wis. The Troy Burne Golf Club opened in 1999 and is 6,774 yards consisting of five par 3s, nine par 4s and four par 5s. MSU last played at the Troy Burne Golf Club during the Fall Brawl in the fall of 2025 where the Mavericks finished fourth.

The Field: In total, 11 teams will be competing at the Maverick Fall Brawl including Minnesota State, Upper Iowa, Concordia-St. Paul, Bemidji State, Minot State, Jamestown, UMary, Madison College, Minnesota Crookston, Sioux Falls and St. Cloud State.

NSIC Preseason Poll: The Maverick men's golf team was picked to finish seventh in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Winona State topped the poll with 97 points and eight first-place votes, with Concordia-St. Paul coming in second with 91 points and three first-place votes. Last season, MSU finished eighth at the NSIC Championships.

The Mavericks: The 2026-27 Minnesota State men's golf team consists of 11 played, including six who return from last season's team, including junior Michael Johnson, senior Karson Patten, junior Logan Peroutka, sophomore Paul Rezko, senior Jack Schrader and sophomore Sam Swavely.

Patten was named MSU's Golfer to Watch as he played in all 24 rounds for the Mavericks last season averaging 73.3 strokes per round. He earned All-NSIC Second Team honors last season as he finished sixth at the NSIC Championships with a score of 218 (+2).

Johnson played in 22 rounds last season, including a 15th place finish at the Desert Classic (+2). He also finished 28th at the NSIC Championships (+14) and averaged 76.0 strokes per round.

Swavely played in 18 rounds for the Mavericks averaging 75.6 strokes per round. He finished in the top-20 in two events, including a ninth place finish at the Jewell Invitational (-4).

Paul Rezko played in 15 rounds last season as he averaged 79.3 strokes per round. At the NSIC Preview he finished 31st at +7.

Schrader played in 11 rounds last season and averaged 77.2 strokes per round. He finished 21st at the BSU Invitational at +7.

New Faces: The Mavericks welcome in five newcomers to this year's team, including sophomore transfer Julian Bhardwaj and freshmen Cooper Daikawa, Owen Matejcek, Maxwell Poole and Benny Waller.
