KEARNEY, Neb. - Minnesota State tennis fell 4-3 at Nebraska-Kearney Saturday afternoon, marking the team's first loss this spring. The Lopers swept doubles, then clinched the winning point at No. 5 singles at Ernest Grundy Tennis Center in non-conference play.
"We played a competitive match today, despite the loss," reflected head coach
Drew Hawthorne. "I think we really put our name out there for some of our regional competitors. Amazing work by Julia (Gurholt) and McKenna (DeMarce) to win in tiebreakers and come back from a set down. Alma (Vazquez) also did an excellent job of staying ahead her entire match to secure a win. We had close matches in doubles, but it wasn't quite enough. We look forward to starting off even stronger in doubles tomorrow morning."
The Mavericks (4-1, 3-0 NSIC) return to action on Sunday in Kearney to play Missouri Western at 8 a.m. CT.
