WINONA, Minn. – Minnesota State tennis stayed undefeated in the spring season with a 7-0 shutout over Minnesota Duluth Saturday afternoon at Winona Tennis Center. The Mavericks swept doubles, including a 6-1 win at No. 3 from
Elizabeth Dabiza and
Amanda Blanco-Epple over Carly Chaney and Morgan Hammer.

In singles, the Mavericks received straight set wins at No. 1 (
Julia Gurholt), No. 2 (
McKenna DeMarce) and No. 3 (
Alma Vazquez) to quickly seal the clinching point.
Taina Cordeiro also won a battle at No. 5 singles over Mia Miller 6-2, 4-6, 12-10.

"It was another good day for Maverick tennis," reflected head coach
Drew Hawthorne. "We set the tone of the match early in doubles and remained steady in all of our singles matches. I'm very proud of the progress we've made so far this spring. We are looking more comfortable on the court every match."

The Mavericks (3-0, 3-0 NSIC) host Carleton College next on February 28 at 11 a.m. at Owatonna Indoor Tennis Center.
