BISMARCK, N.D. --- It proved to be a close dual Sunday afternoon, but its was Minnesota State that was able to come away with the 17-16 dual win over #14 UMary.

With the win, MSU improves to 12-3 on the season, including a 5-1 NSIC record. With the loss, UMary drops to 8-4, including a 4-2 conference record. The Mavericks have now won their last five duals.

In total, the Mavericks won five of the 10 matches, including a pair of major decisions and three decisions.

Sophomore Jacob Fitzpatrick (125 lbs.) earned his sixth major decision win of the season with a 14-4 major decision vs. Ben DeForest, while senior Drake Hayward (174 lbs.) recorded his first major decision win of the season with a 12-2 win over Joey Mushinsky. Fitzpatrick notched four takedowns in his match, while Hayward posted three.

Junior Chase Beckett (133 lbs.) won a 6-5 decision vs. Gabe Motensen, which included one takedown and one reversal. Junior Walker Bents (149 lbs.) recorded the only takedown of his match as he bested Kale Baumann 4-1, while senior Caleb Meunier (157 lbs.) notched a takedown and two escapes to defeat Kaden Renner 5-3.

Minnesota State returns home on Friday as it hosts MSU Moorhead. The dual is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. in Taylor Center.
