Mavericks Host Minot State in Wrestling Sunday

MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State wrestling is home on Sunday, January 25 for an NSIC dual against Minot State at 2 p.m. CT at Taylor Center. The Mavericks (9-3, 2-1 NSIC) are coming off a 3-2 record at the NWCA National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa last week at UNI Dome.

FOR THE MAVERICKS
  • The Mavericks were receiving national votes in the last Top-25 NCAA Division II wrestling poll.
  • Minnesota State wrapped up the NWCA National Duals in ninth place as the Mavericks bested #9 Ashland 39-11 and #12 Grand Valley State 20-18.
  • Junior Walker Bents (Glenwood, Minn.) went 4-1 at the NWCA National Duals over the weekend, including one fall, one tech fall and one major decision. At 149 pounds, Bents is 19-3 overall this season, including 10-2 in duals. He has two wins by fall and four wins by tech fall.
  • Caleb Meunier (Winneconne, Wis.) is 20-4 on the year with a team high 11 wins by fall, along with two wins by tech fall and five major decisions.
 
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS (4-6, 1-2 NSIC)
  • Minot State wrestling dropped all four duals in a challenging slate against nationally competitive RMAC opponents last weekend, falling to Western Colorado, Adams State, Colorado Mesa and Colorado State Pueblo.
  • Shafer Ehmke was the top performer for Minot State, finishing the day with three wins in four matches at 197 pounds. Ehmke recorded pins against Western Colorado and Colorado State Pueblo and added a tech fall versus Colorado Mesa. Braxton Rance also picked up a key win at heavyweight with a high-scoring decision against Western Colorado. Gavin Turn also earned a major decision at 174 pounds in the opening dual.
