KENOSHA, Wis. – Minnesota State women's cross country placed seventh at the Lucian Rosa Invite at Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course. Junior
Ashley Overgaauw led the Mavericks in the 6K race with a 20
th place finish in 21:54.9. Colorado School of Mines posted a score of 51 for the top team score. Adams State (77), UC-Colorado Springs (83), Northern Michigan (169) and CSU-Pueblo (178) rounded out the top five. Individually, the top time came from Grace Strongman (20:36.8) from Colorado School of Mines.
"It was another step in the right direction with a lot of top nationally ranked teams in the field," said head coach
Jen Blue. "We were hoping for a top-five finish. We tied for sixth but lost the tiebreaker. We will need to work on closing our spread from our 1-5 runners and getting that down closer to 30 seconds. Overall, I was pleased with our progression and when we get everyone healthy, we can close that spread and be where we need to be come championship season."
Madison Matzek also turned in a strong performance, with a 31
st place time of 22:16.4.
Alexi MacDonald was 46
th in 22:33.2 and
Mileena Sullivan crossed 53
rd in 22:41.3. The Mavericks compete next at the Holiday Inn Express Classic in Sioux Center, Iowa at Dordt University Prairie in a 6K meet on Saturday, October 11. It will serve as the final tune-up for the NSIC Cross Country Championships on Oct. 24.
