FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. – Junior
Ashley Overgaauw (Lake Wilson, Minn.) helped Minnesota State women's cross country place second at the Roy Griak Invitational Friday afternoon at Les Bolstad Golf Course. Overgaauw completed the 6K in 23:24.2. The Mavericks had five student-athletes inside the top-30.
Winona State took the team title with a score of 27, with Minnesota State (66), Northern Michigan (74), Minnesota Duluth and Dordt (137) rounding out the top five.
Senior
Madison Matzek (Prescott, Wis.) also scored a top-10 finish with her seventh place mark of 23:26.3. The Mavericks placed fifth at the same event in 2024.
"I was very pleased with our effort and finish today," said head coach
Jen Blue. "We battled through some adversity with heat and a few hiccups during the race and were still able to get the job done. This team has high goals and today it showed in the middle of the race how they all got out of their comfort zone and competed for each other. This is positive momentum going into the meet at Parkside next weekend where there will be top national teams - Adams State, Colorado Mines, Colorado Springs and many others."
