CLEVELAND – Minnesota State University Athletics ranked sixth among NCAA Division II institutions in the 2024-25 Learfield Director's Cup this season. The standings measure performance among athletic programs across the nation, with points awarded for NCAA appearances.
 
The Mavericks amassed 749.25 points to finish in the top-25 for the 22^nd time in the 27-year history of the Director's Cup program, and this year's sixth-place finish was the highest for the department since placing fifth nearly a decade ago in 2015-16.
 
Grand Valley State topped Division II with 1080.50 points, followed by Wingate (837.25), West Texas A&M (806.25), Indianapolis (789.75), Tampa (755.50) and Minnesota State (749.25). The Mavericks were the highest ranking program in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), ahead of Augustana (19^th) and Wayne State College (39^th).
 
By finishing sixth among the 312 NCAA Division II members, the Mavericks ranked in the top two percent in 2024-25.
 
In the spring, Minnesota State made NCAA appearances in baseball, women's golf, softball, women's outdoor track & field (sixth in nation) and outdoor men's track & field (20^th in nation).
 
Winter sports to qualify included women's basketball, men's hockey, men's indoor track & field (20^th in nation), swimming & diving (23^rd in nation), women's indoor track & field (second in nation) and wrestling. A memorable fall postseason included soccer (national runner-up) and football (national semifinalist).

Learfield Sports Directors' Cup General Information
A program that honors institutions maintaining a broad-based program, the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup honors those programs achieving success in many sports, both men's and women's. Began in 1993-94 for Division I by NACDA and USA Today, it was expanded in 1995-96 to include Division II, III and the NAIA. Each institution is awarded points in a predetermined number of sports for men and women. The overall champion is the institution that records the highest number of points in their division's Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings.
