SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Outstanding doubles play wasn't enough for the Mavericks as Minnesota State tennis fell 4-1 to No. 33 ranked Augustana in the NSIC Tennis Championship match Sunday morning at Heuther Match Pointe.
 
Seniors Avery Stilwell and Freia Lawrence won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles over Mia Garcia and Fernanda Sandoval while McKenna DeMarce and Elizabeth Felderman defeated Gabriela Jancikova and Chelsea Seidewitz 6-3 at No. 2 to give Minnesota State an early 1-0 team lead.
 
The Vikings struck back in singles. Sandoval dropped just one game over two sets at No. 2 and Jancikova earned a straight set win at No. 3. Augustana also won at No. 5 and No. 6 to earn their 14^th straight NSIC Tournament title.
 
The Mavericks (12-4, 8-1) finished as conference runner up for the third straight season. A committee will determine if MSU's season has concluded during the NCAA Division II Central Region selection show on May 5 at 8:30 p.m.
 
Head Coach Matt Hokanson earned his first postseason victory when the Mavericks defeated MSU Moorhead 4-0 in the NSIC semifinals on Saturday over Sioux Falls. Stilwell and Lawrence closed out the year 13-3 as a doubles team, including 9-0 against NSIC opponents. Lawrence also went 11-4 at No. 1 singles.
