SARTELL, Minn. - Minnesota State tennis picked up its second straight shutout victory Saturday afternoon over Minnesota Duluth 7-0 at STA Fitness Center. Five of six singles matches needed just two sets and the Mavericks combined to drop just one game in three doubles sets to prevail over the Bulldogs.

Minnesota State (6-1, 3-0 NSIC) continues Sunday against St. Cloud State at 12:30 p.m. Minnesota Duluth (4-7, 0-4 NSIC) fell to St. Cloud State earlier in the day Saturday before falling to MSU.

Freia Lawrence upended Luana da Silva 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Avery Stilwell followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2 over Carley Chaney. McKenna Demarce had little trouble against Sydney Friedrich 6-2, 6-1 and Hana Minisy blanked Isabelle Simon 6-0, 6-0.

The Mavericks only loss so far came via 4-3 decision against Carleton College on March 7. They are in the midst of a six-match road swing.

"I thought we had a dominant performance in doubles and carried that into singles well," said head coach Matt Hokanson. "This should give us a lot of confidence heading into tomorrow. I was happy with how we showed up and played pretty well for most matches this year. We've put ourselves in position to win every day so that's all I can ask. I think St. Cloud State will be a good test for us."
