Mavericks Handle Beavers 5-1

MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State celebrated a 5-1 win over Bemidji State Saturday at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center, giving men's hockey momentum heading into the CCHA quarterfinals next weekend at home.

The Mavericks (23-8-3, 17-5-3 CCHA) will host Lake Superior State in a best two out of three game series beginning on Friday at 7:07 p.m. CT. Luc Wilson led the offense with two goals and one assist. Evan Murr chipped in one goal and one assist. Goaltender Eli Pulver stopped 23 of 24 shots for his first career win in goal.

After a scoreless first period, Murr broke the seal on the power play in the second, assisted by Rhett Pitlick and Luigi Benincasa. Wilson scored less than two minutes later at even strength and Luke Ashton fired a shot from the top of the point that found it's way through traffic on the power play. The Mavericks made it 4-0 after 40 minutes.

Jackson Jutting got the Beavers on the scoreboard 1:55 into the third frame but Wilson added an empty net tally late.

The Mavericks finished with a 30-24 shot advantage and went 2-4 on the power play. Mattias Sholl made 18 saves for the Beavers and Raythan Robbins stopped seven.

CCHA commissioner Don Lucia presented the MacNaughton Cup to captain Josh Groll following the game as the Mavericks celebrated their ninth regular season title with the famed trophy.
