MANDAN, N.D. – Minnesota State tennis collected another road win with a 5-2 decision over UMary at Mandan Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
Â
The Mavericks improved to 3-0, 2-0 NSIC and return home to host Carleton College on March 7. The Marauders fell to 1-2, 1-1 NSIC on senior day.
Â
"We had some challenging matches today, but the team did an excellent job of staying in control on the whole," said assistant coach
Drew Hawthorne. "We played aggressive doubles and battled hard across the board in singles.
Â
Similar to Saturday, the Mavericks swept doubles.
Freia Lawrence and
Avery Stilwell improved to 3-0 at No. 1. Lawrence, along with the middle of the singles lineup provided four singles wins, helping the Mavericks stay in front despite a pair of three-set defeats.
Â
"Hana (Minisy) and Taina (Cordeiro) showed great progress in their net games, contributing to their 6-1 win in doubles," Hawthorne continued. "McKenna (DeMarce) played a great, powerful hitter, but she remained patient and in control of the match, giving her a big 6-4, 6-2 win."
Â
The Mavericks fell to UMary in the regular season last spring but avenged the loss with a 4-2 victory in the NSIC semifinals in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Â
"It was a successful weekend. We are ready to get back to work in preparation for our next match in just under two weeks."
