Alexi MacDonald were named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II Cross Country All-Region on Monday (Nov. 10).
Athletes earned the distinction of All-Region by virtue of a top-25 finish at one of the eight regional sites this past weekend. Only athletes from USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.
Overgaauw, a junior from Lake Wilson, Minnesota, has been excellent in her first season for the Mavericks. With five top-10 finishes this fall, Overgaauw led the Mavericks with her second place individual finish at the NSICC Championships on October 24 in Wayne, Nebraska. Other top results this season included second place at the Dordt University Holiday Classic, sixth place at the Roy Griak Invitational and seventh place at the NCAA Division II Central Region Championships last weekend at Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course in Joplin, Missouri.
As the top MSU finisher at the event, Overgaauw helped the Maverick place fourth as the team hopes for an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships on Saturday, November 22 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Her second place time at the NSIC Championships was the best finish by an MSU women's cross country student-athlete since 1982.
MacDonald is a senior from Rice Lake, Wisconsin. She is in her fourth season competing for the Mavericks. MacDonald crossed the line 23
rd at the NCAA Central Region Championships with a 6K time of 21:46.4.
Other top results include a third place finish at the Dordt University Holiday Classic (personal best 6K time) and 11
th place at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis.
