Jamal Spiyee (Fort Dodge, Iowa) was named NSIC Defensive Player of the Week and sophomore
Connor Fournier (Maple Grove, Minnesota) was named NSIC Special Teams Player of the Week. Both helped Minnesota State upend No. 5 Augustana 45-21 on Saturday at Kirkeby-Over Stadium in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Spiyee, a defensive back, made three important plays to help MSU clinch a share of the NSIC South Division title. Spiyee blocked a 45-yard field goal with 12:04 to play in the third quarter. Minnesota State was leading 21-14 at the time of the block. Spiyee also recovered a fumble and returned it 24 yards for a touchdown to put MSU ahead 35-14. On the ensuing drive, Spiyee intercepted a pass. He added one tackle to the stat sheet for the Mavericks.

Fournier connected on a 35-yard field goal to give the Mavericks a 38-14 lead in the fourth quarter on Saturday. He also went 6-for-6 on point after attempts as he tallied nine total points on the afternoon. Fournier led all kickers in scoring in the NSIC. He was previously named NSIC Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 2 and Oct. 13.

No. 14 ranked Minnesota State football (8-2, 7-2 NSIC) closes the regular season at home on Saturday, November 15 at noon at Blakeslee Stadium. The Mavericks are currently 5-0 at home.
